This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘sw’ CCVC words. A natural progression from CVC and CCV to CCVC Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Principles and Practice. Aimed at: Early Years and keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This pack contains: Flexible Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. PowerPoint Presentation 1 (36 Slides)- includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words; whole class/group activities to prepare children for their independent activities. Also includes alien and real word whole class activity. PowerPoint Phoneme Presentation (15 Slides) - Optional (Use as reference) - some children may still be struggling with segmenting/blending). I have listed a few CCVC words and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures). Children are encouraged to make simple sentences with the words to understand its meaning and distinguish between nouns, verbs or adjectives. Flashcards and words with and without sound buttons and lines Set of pictures and words for matching activities (8) New set of worksheets 3 Practice Workssheets: Worksheet 1 - Sw Blend Matching Words to Pictures - Children complete the words and then draw lines to match words to pictures. Worksheet 2 - Sw Cloze exercise - Children read and fill in the missing words in the sentences. Second part of worksheet - unscramble the words in the sentences. Extension: Worksheet 3 - Jumbled sentences and punctuation. Children work out the simple sentences and punctuate accordingly. 2 Word Searches with pictures. You can combine the set of pictures and words with the other resources I have created on initial consonant blends - creating a set of pictures and words for group activities. In small groups, I put different pictures and words from previous laminated material for children to sort into rhyming groups, e.g. swot-plot-clot-snot-slot words/pictures. This product relates to learning the alphabet names and sounds and upper and lower cases letters. Learning objectives are to develop children’s knowledge of upper and lower letters of the alphabet and begin to learn alphabetical order. Contents: Flexible detailed Lesson Plan includes lesson starter, main lesson and whole class activities and plenary. PowerPoint Presentation on the alphabet (letters float in as you click through the slides) Upper and lower case alphabet flash cards to be laminated and cut apart Editable flash cards Washing line alphabet activity Missing letters gap-filling alphabet strips (upper and lower case letters) Blank alphabet strips Upper and lower case letters to be cut out for extra activities Children are introduced to capital/upper and lower case letters, recite the alphabet, to know that the capital A and the lower case a have the same sound. Washing line activity - questions marks are placed where there should be either a capital letter or a lower case letter. Children are given a selection of laminated letters and have to decide whether the letter they are holding should go where the question mark is. Reinforcement of what the children have learnt: There is a selection of alphabet gap-filling strips from easy to challenging. Cut out the gap-filling alphabet strips and stick into workbooks; and/or Laminate for continuous use There are 26 upper and lower letters for the children to cut out each time you focus on a letter. Here are some additional worksheets on numbers and number words. A lovely addition to Numbers/Number Words 1 and 2. Number word to number match up Worksheets (x5) - Children draw a line from a number word to match up to its numeral. Each worksheet gets harder. Counting worksheets (x4) - Each ten frames shows different number of dots which the children count and write in words in the space provided. Double Ten Frames Read and Draw worksheets (x3)- Teen numbers up to 20. Children read the number words and then draw the same number of dots. One more/one less worksheets (x5) - Children read the numbers in words and then write in words one less and one more on either side of the number word. In addition, two of the worksheets have a missing letters activity. Children insert the missing letters in the number words. Doubles worksheets (x3); and Writng doubles number sentences worksheets (x5) - Each box contains robots which the children count. They write the number in figures and in words. Then they double the number and write in figures and words. The worksheets are differentiated in that some children may be able to write doubles number sentences. See the first example on the worksheet. • Making Words with Ending Blends (3 worksheets) Students can choose any of the final consonant blends to complete the words below the boxes. Once they have made word, the students draw a picture to go with the word because two words can be made with be__ , i.e. best or bend. Both are correct as they are real words. • Colouring activity – Which Word? (3 worksheets) Students sound out the word that goes with the picture in the centre and then colour the correct word that goes with the picture. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1 If you operate a carousel system in your class, you can place the different activities on the tables for children to practise number work/patterns. Content and Description Includes Teacher Notes • Counting in ones missing number sequence worksheet – Children complete sequence by writing the missing numbers in the heart. • Number bonds to 10 and 20 - x2 sets of worksheets – this is a cut and stick activity. Children cut out a broken heart on worksheet 2 to match and stick to a broken heart on worksheet 1. The hearts add up to 10 on one set of worksheets; and then add up to 20 on the second set of worksheets. • Counting using Tens Frame – Pictures are placed in different positions on the tens frame. Children count and write the number in the space provided. • Count and tick to match activity – Numicon – Children count the pictures in the squares and then tick the Numicon shape that matches the number of pictures. • Colour Sequence Worksheet – Children work out what comes next in the colour sequence and then complete the last two or three squares. This product relates to recording data, completing tally charts, creating a pictogram and completing block graphs. Aimed at: KS1 Content and description: - Teacher Notes Favourite Colour Hearts: • Worksheet A – Students complete the tally chart by counting the hearts shown below. • Worksheet B – Cut and glue activity. Students use the data from the tally chart to colour in the hearts. Then they cut out the hearts and glue onto the pictogram worksheet to produce a pictogram. Students then give the pictogram a title. • Worksheet C – Students answer questions relating to the pictogram/tally chart. This literacy resource contains ready-made bingo cards and call out cards, 3 x 3 lotto grids, word searches, word cards for matching games and cards for word snap. **UPDATED WITH TO USE LESS PRINTER INK** 100 sight words obtained from the Primary National Strategy - Letters and Sounds: Appendices - 100 high-frequency words in phases. Use to complement reading activities, literacy and for learning words for spelling tests and assessment. Also great for end of term games. All the bingo boards and lotto boards are numbered and colour-coded for ease of use. There are two versions of the letter ‘K’ in Sassoon font. I have made extra cards for replacement. The words cover Phases 2 to 5 and comprises:- Phase 2 words - bingo cards (x17) Phase 3 words - bingo cards (x15) Phase 4 words - bingo cards (x15) Phase 5 words - bingo cards (x15) Phases 2-5 bingo cards (x40) - Use for whole class option, if you wish. A set of 3 x 3 grid lotto cards - (x20) for Phase 2, (10x) of each set for Phases 3 to 5. Set of wrongly spelt word cards for matching with a set of correctly spelt words – Put a few correct/incorrect words in the centre of the table for groups to match the jumbled words to the correctly spelt words, e.g. hte - the, pepole - people. Lotto game - There are a set of 3 x 3 grid lotto cards. The children can play as individuals or in pairs or in small groups. One child picks a word from a bag or box and read it aloud. The children mark the word on their card by colouring over or placing a counter over the word. The first one to complete a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins the game. 10 Word searches with solutions. Use the word cards for other activities such as laying out five different word cards and ask the pupil to point to the card that says, e.g. ‘about’. This resource relates to St. Patrick’s Day (17 March). It is versatile in that you can save as a different name and then adapt to suit the timing of your assembly. It can also be used as a lesson resource where you can focus on a particular topic such as St Patrick’s life from when he was born, taken as a slave and the becoming the patron saint of Ireland. Content: A Presentation (69 Slides) on facts about St. Patrick and how the day is celebrated. The presentation starts with a welcome to the whole school. It then shows a stain glass window of St Patrick holding a shamrock. There are questions and answers throughout the presentation to involve the children. It is divided into sections:- Background to St. Patrick’s life Around the World Myths and legends Celebrations Reflection -A prayer (optional) (3 pages)- Teacher’s notes on assembly referring to each slide. This resource is on the hundred square and the 1-120 square/grid. Students gain practice in moving up and down in tens and matching tens and ones/units grids to the numbers on the hundred square. Referring to the hundred square to complete word problem questions. If you are looking for some hundred square activities, then resource is ideal for use in lessons, review and homework. Answer Keys included. Content: • Worksheet 1 – (2 pages) - Students complete the hundred square from 1 to 100. After completing it, there are 11 questions to answer. • Worksheet 2 – (2 pages) - Students fill in the partially completed hundred square. After completing it, there are 7 activities to do. Three of the activities include students shading in every two jumps for counting in two, every five jumps for counting in fives and every ten jumps for counting in tens. • Hundred Square -Tens/Ones Activities (A to E) Students work out what each tens and ones grid represent and write the number in the circle and then shade in the number on the hundred square. The first example has been done. • 2x Cut/Paste missing numbers puzzle on a hundred square. Students will see that there are missing extracts of grids from the hundred square. They cut out the grids and glue them in the correct spaces on the hundred square. • Missing numbers on a hundred square. Students will see parts of a hundred square which they complete with the missing numbers. • 10 More than/Less than Word Problems.
